Story Idea Recap: “Ghosts and the People Who Hunt Them”

Visuals

The visuals for my main piece are pretty straight forward. My plan is to capture “Linda the Ghost Hunter” in action. I want to see her physically trying to document a ghost through the use of high tech ghost technology.

Another great opportunity to capture the affects ghost hunters have on other people will be the crowd’s reaction to ghost-like phenomena. Linda often gives ghost tours with dozens of people in attendance. Capturing their reactions to a ghost would be quite a spectacle.

The video aspects that I plan on having coincide with my piece are all great opportunities to get the full spectrum on what it feels like to be on a ghost hunt. You can only provide so much, in writing and pictures, when it comes to the experience of being in the midst of a spirit. Having video as another way of conveying the mysteriousness and peculiarity of ghost hunting, in general, would be vastly interesting and beneficial to the integrity of the story.

I’m also thinking, if this ghost hunting thing goes well, of exploring famously haunted areas independently. Somewhere extra spooky can add cool aesthetics to the website to go along with this semesters theme.

Your Pets See Ghosts

Howdy!

Story Idea Recap: Ghosts and People That Hunt Them.

The more I explain this story idea to people the stranger the responses become. I’ve found it’s usually an initial interested reaction like “Wow that’s crazy” then it becomes really serious and a story about someones personal ghost adventure that still haunt them to this day.

It seems like everyone has had their own experiences with spirits.

I’m not one to accredit Fox News as my official news outlet but they reported that “a new study of 2,000 people found that most people have a stronger connection to the paranormal than one might think – 60 percent of those studied felt they had seen a ghost in their lifetime. In addition, more than 40 percent of those surveyed think their pet has seen one too.” (Link: https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/60-percent-of-americans-claim-to-have-seen-ghosts)

Your pets see ghosts too?! (What the…?!?!)

The more data and research I find on this topic the more people I want to talk to about there own experiences.

The woman I plan on using as my main source and “Face” of my story is someone with a long history in the ghost hunting zeitgeist.

“Linda the Ghost Hunter” has been professional ghost hunting for over 25 years. I shall accompany her on a hunt March 1st.

I’ll keep you guys updated on how that goes.

If you don’t hear from me I was probably possessed by a demon.

When a calf takes on The Bull

Howdy!

My name is Cameron Kern. When I found out that the theme of this semester’s The Bull Magazine was “Spirituality” I was immediately stoked. My mother has long since instilled my family and I with a strong sense of the importance of spreading positivity outward to what she calls the “universe”. Some of my fondest memories are in my childhood North Hollywood bedroom surrounded by positivity crystals with the intoxicating scent of Nag Champa Incense.

My Dad, however, has always served as a counterargument to the spiritual side of my mom. He often continues to say, “there’s no place in this world for religions of any kind.” I don’t know if this is correct, I’m trying to figure that one out.

This is why I’m so glad to work on this specific issue of the magazine. Spirituality has a unique place in everyone’s heart.

Which leads me to my idea, “Why do people believe in ghosts?”. I thought I’d be decently equipped in tackling this idea because I’m particularly torn on the subject. Half of me is connected to my spiritual side and can understand how someone can have an otherworldly experience with people in the next life. While the other half has a bit of my dad in me and thinks the idea of ghouls and demons hiding in dark corners are silly.

Either way, I’m ready to find out.
