3 facts about my story!!!!!

Hello peeps and peepets!

Just for a recap: Rapper and Art Collective

My article regards a rapper by the name of Hundo. He is based in the San Fernando Valley- proudly boasting about this in many of his songs. He has obtained a small following of over 35,000 followers on Facebook and even more on Instagram and Youtube.

What seperates Hundo from everyday rappers is his love for San Fernando Valley art and the artists themselves. His love for artistry in this area has inspired him to become a founder of an Art Collective titled Potluck, where local artists come and showcase their skills.

Hundo feels his communial efforts boast his communty.

Art Collectives are all over Los Angeles, even in its more rural areas. Like Lancaster, California. The hoe of Cameron Kern and The 5 Acres Art Exhibit and collective has greatly improved the Antelope Valley area bringing in more than 10,000 people every year to its bearen landscape.

Something surprising about the US is the lack of artistry, which, admittedly is surprising because of America’s influence on culture. But it is true. over 1.3 million students don’t have access to music programs in the US today, according to childrenmusicworkshop.com.

Hopefully Los Angeles and California as a whole, home of the stars, would have an impressive rate of consideration in Art programs right? WRONG. According to the LA Times, only 35 public schools have a proficient arts programs.

These facts are shocking to me, which is why I wanted to not only celebrate arts and artistry in the San Fernando Valley through this magazine, but Hundo as well.

The New Semester!

Hello all!

So happy to be back after a 3 month long hiatus from writing on this here blog of mine. The Bull Magazine is up and happening once again and I am so excited to be the Editor-In-Chief of the darn thing as well.

The theme of this issue is “Live Performers.” A theme I chose personally because of my long love of theatre. It should be an exciting issue as we already have many great story ideas in the works.

Which brings me to my story, it is about a Rapper. Well, he’s is not just a Rapper he also is the founder of a art collective called Potluck, where artists in the San Fernando Valley come and showcase there work.

This man basically encapsulates everything I wanted this magazine to be; a celebration of San Fernando Valley art.

Making Connections

Story Recap: Ghosts and people who hunt them

When I was concieving this idea to do a story on ghost hunting, I had the thought that this concept would run perfectly with a magazine that I ‘ve grown to love called “Heavy Metal.”

Heavy Metal Magazine does stories about ghosts, demons and all things alike. I feel as though this concept and my story would be a match made in heaven.

Other than that, I’m not sure. I feel like my story is very similar to that of something that would run on “VICE” or something. I really love (and at times hate) this new wave of journalism that has become popular in recent years. This (my article) shares similarities with this type of journalism.

My multimedia

Story Recap: Ghosts and people who hunt them

The semester is winding down and I’m working on the final project out of the many in this class. I feel like i’ve learned a great deal about how a magazine operates. I have genuinely enjoyed these assignments and I hope to finish this one strong.

The best part of my piece will be the video footage of the ghost hunters actually ghost hunting. I feel like I have a few great moments of the crew using there machines and what not. It should be great.

Why you (and everyone you know) should read my article

Story Recap: Ghosts and people who hunt them

I have been involved with the media arts department at Pierce College for the better part of a year now. I have written dozens of articles, made a few multimedia pieces and I even have a full 12 minute documentary. There are many things I am really proud to have done and/or worked on at my time at the college.

But, I feel like this may be the one I am most proud of.

The interviews I did are by far the most intense and interesting in my entire Journalism career.

Covering stories like these make me want to be a journalist.

The story I wrote and the pictures we collected created something that, if I were reading a magazine, I would certainly stop and read the whole thing.

I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

Finding the right image

This is the blog where I talk about some of the images I have.

Story Recap: Ghosts and people that hunt them

So I feel like I may have missed out on a really great dominant image, which is unfortunate to say the least.

After going on two separate ghost hunting adventures I’ve realized that photographing the experience is much harder then you’d think. It is just not that visually interesting. A lot of the process of ghost hunting is just sitting there and talking to people.

I mean, I took freaking Bleu, and she didn’y really get much.

I do have enough though. I have many images of them (the ghost hunters) in action and we have some nice portrait photos if all else fails.

I have an idea of a cool dsign we could do that i’m going to try and implement. Hopefully it goes well.

I am just so relieved the story is done. Now its time for the fun part. Desinging the damn thing

Putting the pieces together

This is what I am missing from my article

Story Recap: Ghosts and people that hunt them

I have concluded in obtaining the three sources for my article.

However, things are changing.

My main face for my article may be switching to my secondary source.

A colleague of mine is going with me on another ghost hunt with a crew that goes by the name of LA Ghost Patrol.

They are legit ghost hunters and are taking us to a seriously haunted house.

I am slightly worried because my story is shifting so much last minute. But, either way I have a pretty great second face so If worse came to worse I can just use that.

If it turns out they aren’t as great as I hoped, they could be a good multimedia piece.

Excited to see what happens!

Hunting the expert

Howdy!

Story Recap: Ghosts and the people who hunt them

Experts:

I’ve had my fair share of troubles when it comes to finding a REAL expert on the subject as peculiar as ghosthunting. Many people may think they are experts but they are not. I’ve begun vetting people on there knowledge on ghosts prior to interviews.

When I started this assignment I wanted to speak to a Psychologist of some sort to hear about the the science of the possibility of someone thinking they see something that really, isn’t there.

However, my story is beginning to change.

I’m finding that someone in the Anthropology department may have some knowledge on ghosts in other cultures and the historical prelevance of spirits.

I’m planning on speaking to Brian Pierson who is a Cultural Anthropology Professor at Pierce. He saids he has some knowledge on the subject.

I’d like to ask him something along the lines of, “How long have people been searching for ghosts in human history?”

May be a really broad question but I hope he’ll have some type of answer.

The ghost adventure on Hollywood Blvd.

Howdy!

Story Recap: Ghosts and the people that hunt them

I am happy to report that I have successfully gone on a real ghost hunt with a real ghost hunter.

I don’t want to give away to much but basically, Linda (AKA Linda the Ghost Hunter) took me down various parts of Hollywood Blvd. that she claimed to have insider knowledge about the history and people that had died there. She had all kinds of gadgets and tools that were supposed to encourage ghosts or spirits to engage with us.

We were all given different devices. Some she had professional bought and some she handmade. I had batteries taped to the top of a ruler with Christmas lights on the ends that would flicker from red to blue when a ghost was present.

This was definitely the most embarrassed I had ever felt walking down any street. But a cool experience, nonetheless.

There was one point in the interview where I asked her straight up, are ghosts real?

She looked at me confused for a second. Then she smiled and said, “Yes, But if you don’t believe, I can’t change your mind even if I wanted to. It’s something that you have to find out yourself.”

So do I think ghosts are real?

Find out in my article.
